Chapter 13 TORCH workup

Consider following work up for TORCH, all tests may not be necessary for all babies, please use your judgement

• Toxo IgM
• Rubella IgM
• CMV ** Urine CMV PCR ** saliva CMV PCR
• RPR on baby
• HSV surface cultures
• HSV serum PCR.

Non-specific tests

• LFTs
• Total IgM.

Eye Exam

• to R/o chorioretinitis

Radiology

• Bone survey.
• US Head
• CT Head.

IF CSF done then

• CSF VDRL
• CSF HSV PCR.

In addition to routine tests such as

• CSF Routine Micro
• CSF Meningitis panel
• CSF culture
